platinum vase

platinum vase

h 38cm

two wheel-thrown cylinders were joined
to compose the shape of this vase.

after bisque firing, the inside was glazed
with a dark matt glaze that is saturated with metallic oxides,
containing reed ash, wood ash, feldspar, china clay, iron ore,
cobalt carbonate, chromium- , and nickel oxide.
on the outside I applied a thick coat of runny madara glaze,
with some drops almost reaching the base of the vessel.

after the glaze firing, which reached 1250°C,
a platinum overglaze was applied over the madara glaze only
and the piece was fired a third time, at 750°C.
